"Inquisition" is a word in ENGLISH
The finding of a jury, especially such a finding under
a writ of inquiry.
The act of inquiring; inquiry; search; examination;
inspection; investigation.
A court or tribunal for the examination and punishment
of heretics, fully established by Pope Gregory IX. in 1235. Its
operations were chiefly confined to Spain, Portugal, and their
dependencies, and a part of Italy.
To make inquisistion concerning; to inquire into.
Judicial inquiry; official examination; inquest.
The amount of evidence and its quality do not count for much, because poor evidence can make a very good story. For some of our most important beliefs we have no evidence at all, except that people we love and trust hold these beliefs. Considering how little we know, the confidence we have in our beliefs is preposterous - and it is also essential.
