"Tacamahaca" is a word in ENGLISH
Any tree yielding tacamahac resin, especially, in North
America, the balsam poplar, or balm of Gilead (Populus balsamifera).
A bitter balsamic resin obtained from tropical American
trees of the genus Elaphrium (E. tomentosum and E. Tacamahaca), and
also from East Indian trees of the genus Calophyllum; also, the
resinous exhudation of the balsam poplar.
The values we rightly associate with the modern age - the "liberty, equality, and fraternity" of the French revolution - are all endangered today not by the dead hand of tradition but by modernity itself, and they can be salvaged only by moving beyond it.
