Definition:

In forest law. A court holden before the verderors, as judges, by the steward of the sweinmote, thrice ln ev-ery year, the stceins or freeholders within the forest composing the jury. Its principal ju-risdiction was—First, to inquire into the op-presslons and grievances committed hy the officers of the forest; and, secondly, to receive and try presentments certified from the court of attachments in offenses against vert and venison. 8 Bl. Comm. 72
