"Latten" is a word in ENGLISH
A kind of brass hammered into thin sheets, formerly much
used for making church utensils, as candlesticks, crosses, etc.; --
called also latten brass.
Sheet tin; iron plate, covered with tin; also, any metal in
thin sheets; as, gold latten.
The idea was that you could grow a system like the Internet one network at a time and then interconnect them. In some sense, the most important thing was the invention of the architecture protocols that enabled the Internet.
