"Grasshopper" is a word in ENGLISH
Any jumping, orthopterous insect, of the families
Acrididae and Locustidae. The species and genera are very numerous. The
former family includes the Western grasshopper or locust (Caloptenus
spretus), noted for the great extent of its ravages in the region
beyond the Mississippi. In the Eastern United States the red-legged
(Caloptenus femurrubrum and C. atlanis) are closely related species,
but their ravages are less important. They are closely related to the
migratory locusts of the Old World. See Locust.
In ordinary square or upright pianos of London make,
the escapement lever or jack, so made that it can be taken out and
replaced with the key; -- called also the hopper.
I'm not talking about being against development. I'm talking about the politics of development. I'm talking about more development, not less. More democracy, not less. More modernization, not less. How do you break down this completely centralized, undemocratic process of decision-making? How do you make sure that it's decentralized and that people have power over their lives and their natural resources? I don't even believe in the modern business-like notion of "efficiency". It dovetails with totalitarianism, fascism. Peopl say, "If it's decentralized it will be inefficient." I think that's fine. Let it be inefficient.
