"Chancroid" is a word in ENGLISH
A venereal sore, resembling a chancre in its seat and
some external characters, but differing from it in being the starting
point of a purely local process and never of a systemic disease; --
called also soft chancre.
The idea was that you could grow a system like the Internet one network at a time and then interconnect them. In some sense, the most important thing was the invention of the architecture protocols that enabled the Internet.
