"Assignee" is a word in LAW AND LEGAL, ENGLISH
A person to whom an assignment is made. Allen v. Pancoast, 20 N. J. Law, 74; Ely v. Cora'rs, 49 Mich. 17. 12 N. W. 893, 13 N. W. 784. The term is commonly used ln reference to personal property; but it ls not incorrect, ln some cases, to apply it to realty, e. g., “assignee of the reversion.”
A person to whom an assignment is made; a person
appointed or deputed by another to do some act, perform some business,
or enjoy some right, privilege, or property; as, an assignee of a
bankrupt. See Assignment (c). An assignee may be by special appointment
or deed, or be created by jaw; as an executor.
In England, the persons appointed, under a commission of
bankruptcy, to manage the estate of a bankrupt for the benefit of his
creditors.
